Acting Kindly

When I used to work for a debt collection agency I was always sure to be nice to those that I communicated with. If they would say things like, "I lost my job." or, "There was a death in the family", I would be sure to apologize for this and act personal so as to lighten the mood of the situation.

I would also ask questions to make sure that this person wasn't lying and make sure that they are still paying attention to what I am telling them. It also helps to make your script seem less automated and more like a concerned human being rather than a stereotypical heartless debt collector.

As you can see there is a reason why I quit this job. Debt collecting is hard on the mind for some, including me, so don't be discouraged when you find your job a daunting task.
