Collection Agencies- A Necessary Evil

(Jackson,MS)

Unfortunately collection agencies are a necessary evil. As a business owner, we have to utilize collection agencies from time to time. We only use them as a last resort because as soon as the account is turned over to a collection agency, it turns a customer into an enemy.

It is the worst thing you can do for customer relations and good will. It brings a load of ill will and bad advertising because every customer then goes around telling their friends and relatives that my company turned them over to a collection agency.

That being said, sometimes there is no way to keep customer good will and her have to utilize a collection agency to try to collect what we are owed. If we do not get paid for our services and have exhausted all avenues to collect from the customer and keep them as a customer, we will turn the account over to a collection agency.

As a business owner, we would like for collection agencies to realize that by treating a debtor with disrespect and rudeness it reflects on our business in a negative way which hurts our business.

If we lose business that means fewer customers and, ultimately, fewer accounts for the collection agency to work. Bottom line: when collection agencies hurt our business, it hurts their own business.
