Collection Agency Helped Me- But Didn't Seem To Want To

I know collection agencies are necessary and that if you owe a debt you should make every effort to pay it. Unfortunately unforeseen things can happen and you aren’t always able to pay your bills.
When this happened to me and a collection agency began calling they were very condescending at first. Believe me, I felt bad enough not being able to pay my bills; I didn’t need someone treating me like a deadbeat to get the point across.
Not only were they condescending, but they didn’t believe me. It was obvious they had dealt with a lot of people who lied to them, but I certainly wasn’t one of them. Their attitude toward me made me want to avoid them completely, but I felt terribly about the debt and forced myself to deal with them.
Eventually, with their help, I got payments I could deal with and the debt was paid. I think the whole process could have been handled better. I mean after that first call I received, I can see why people avoid their calls. But if I’m honest, they did help me, even if they acted like I was lower than scum and they would not normally spit on me if I was on fire.
