Is Debt Collection Harassment Better Than Being Nice At All Times?

My friend works for a collection agency and I ask her from time to time how is she able to do this job, especially now during such difficult times. In the past she would always comment about how it was very difficult to contact debtors and when she got the chance to talk to any of them, it usually ended up in a bitter conversation.
I asked her what was the conversation all about and she said, that of course she had to put the pressure on the debtor, or simply give him or her the routine about pressing charges, or going to court, etc.
I told her that yes, I'd gotten those calls in the past whenever I wasn’t able to pay one of my credit cards. I also told her that when I have felt harassed by a debt collector it never encouraged me to pay back what I owed.
After I told her this, she came to me a few months later and thanked me for that conversation, since now she is getting more communication with debtors when she is nicer to them rather than giving them the routine on collections.
