As stated in this article. it is time to gain control of the collection process used by companies today. As the economy worsens more people are falling behind on some of their bills and are being unfairly taken advantage of by collection companies.

It is easy to see why, as the article states, that debts are sold over and over again so the original record of the debt is lost. All the collection company can tell you is who the debt is from and how much it is for.

It’s not just the old credit card debts that the article references, but other unsecured debts that have many people receiving phone calls and letters demanding payment.

Many people have medical charges that total more than they can ever pay, but when the collection company contacts them they can not provide any specifics for what the bill is from. Hospital bills have so many different charges on them to doctors and departments that it is necessary to see what is owed and the fees that are being added on to the total for collection expenses.

If the government is receiving more complaints than ever before, maybe it is time to reform the collection process. The law should be changed to require collectors to disclose who the original bill is from, what the bill is for, and how much is being charged for the collection process. It is time to take this information and make sure that people can see it.
