My Not So Great Opinion On
Debt Collectors

What a very high percentage of debt collectors do to us is illegal, dirty, and disrespectful. Basically, what they are doing when they are harassing us with insults, and threats, they are abusing the consumer.

I have had debt collectors call my house and accuse me of being a thief, by borrowing money that I had never planned on paying back. I have had collectors tell me to sell my house, or sell my car. I have been asked very personal questions that are not really any of their business.

One time I had a debt collector tell me that I had too many children, and even asked me if I spend money on any extra activities for my children. They have threatened to take my belongings; they are awful, they make you feel you are going to be held captive, if you do not pull the money they want right out of the air.

I would like to know who trains these people to be so intimidating, and careless when it comes to your situation. They do not care if you do not have a dime. They do not care if you have had a death in the family, or anything about your situation. Some of this behavior is criminal, and if it keeps happening to me, I am going to do something about it.

I have heard of people getting harassing phone calls at work, and I am talking literally 50 calls in one day. Debt collectors even up the amount that you owe, and I do not think they should get away with that.

These collectors are violating the law, and others. They think that they will never get caught, and I think it is time that more people start to do something about this sort of behavior!

Pay your Bills
by: Anonymous

I agree some collectors can be rude and harsh. But when you take out a loan, sign a contract, or seek some type of attention (medical, dental, etc) open a charge account (I am sure you see where this is going), it is your responsibility to take care of these bills...long before it goes to a collection agency.

These people have a job to do and sometimes (right or wrong ) it means being a little forceful. And the additional monies due that is interest, which by law they can charge. Also sometimes the collection agency has a fee, again legal. So pay your bills or at least try to set up an arrangement before it goes to a collection agency.
